hi, im having a concern with regards to alimony and child maintenance.

Divorce took place in starting period of 2009 and contact order for my 5 year old daughter is placed recently.

Can she ask for alimony now?

She asked for child maintenance but I unable to pay because im on benefits. a little-bird told me that even Im on benefits I should be paying at least something for the child maintenance! Is this is right?

would really appreciate if someone can clarify the above points for me please?

Hi Info,

I believe that even though you are benefits that you should be paying something (even if its only a £5 a month) however I could be wrong. So I would suggest you contact our partners at Child Maintenance Options.

You can find out all about them here on our Child Maintenance Options info pages. They are confidential and impartial - so well worth having a chat with.

Here are their contact details, Call Child Maintenance Options in confidence on freephone*

0800 988 0988 From 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday / From 9 am to 4 pm Saturday

Visit Options online at www.cmoptions.org

* Calls to 0800 numbers are free from BT landlines but you may have to pay if you use another phone company, a mobile phone, or if you are calling from abroad.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Yep, you do pay maintenance if you are on benefits - it's £5 per week.
