i have been in contact with the csa about maintenance, conversations were that if i kept in contact with them i could avoid having an attachment to earnings order placed on me, recieved a letter the other day, (last friday) saying i owe over £7000 and i was to contact them, didn't ring that day but did on the monday, in the meantime on the saturday i got a letter sayint that an attachment to earnings has been set up!! when i spoke to them on the monday i explained that i have been in contact withthe citizens advice bureauregarding finances and that i have got a financial statment from them, they said send it to them which i did by registered post, i waited til i knew it had arrived and rang them again, but they said they are still going ahead with the attachment to earnngs even though it will i will not be able to pay my rent, council tax or other normal living bills??? Help!!! i cannot find anyone that can offer any advice on this

Hi there and welcome 🙂

The CSAs behaviour borders on the criminal in my opinion. There are many Dads that come here with similar experiences to you and it seems that they are getting worse. They just dont listen and cannot be reasoned with!

My advice to you is to gather all the paperwork and contact your MP. They usually run weekly surgeries locally, but you can also email them, and this can sometimes be quicker than waiting for an appointment. You could send them all the information by email and at the same time ask for an appointment, stressing how urgent your situation is. You will find them very approachable, and they will get a response from the CSA where all else has failed. If you have a strong case, then I'm fairly optimistic that if anyone can sort it out, your MP can.

Best of luck with it and do let us know how you get on 🙂

As NJ says.....your MP may be able to get the CSA to respond quicker....it worked for a mate of mine from work.

I was told I had no option to agree to an attachment to earnings order placed on me in 2009 as they told me that that was the new proceedure that everone being assessed would be getting from now on this this not the case?

aside from my MP does anyone know of any solictors that deal with the CSA? had a list of over 20 from the CAB but none are happy to take on the CSA as they seem to be above the law, have sent an Email to MP but don't want to wait too long as getting desperate now

It doesnt suprise me that solicitors wouldn't want to take CSA on, they behave like gangsters!

You could try telephoning your MP first thing in the morning, it will probably be his/her secretary that you talk to, these are often family members...my MP's secretary is his wife. Let them know you have sent an email outlining everything and are in a really desperate situation. My MP has always responded to me by return and its surprising how quickly they can move things forward.
