I was given a declaration of parentage recently and am due to go on the birth certificate. My Ex has informed the Home Office that i've changed my surname since the child was born and wants my origional name on the birth certificate.
They have written to me asking for details of my change of name.I've found out that if i dont respond, they have a deadline &will ammend the certificate using my current details.
Once that happens-is there anything my ex can do about it?Can she insist its changed to my origional name?
Ive been married for a couple of years and i changed my name to my wifes maiden name when we married. That is now my legal name and that is the name i want going on the birth certificate.
Legally-where do i stand?

Please contact the Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) via their webchat facility. The link to their webchat is www.childrenslegalcentre.com or via the CCLC link at the foot of this page. The webchat can be accessed Monday to Friday 9am-6pm. Alternatively you can contact them on a freephone advice line which is 0808 8020 008 and available Monday to Friday 8am-8pm.

Then you need another solicitor from that law firm to advise in his absence. Explain that the matter is urgent.

Users of this site share their experiences and offer opinions or suggestions on specific matters.

We don't give legal advice. Free legal advice is provided by the CCLC upon request, however professional ethics prevent the CCLC from advising on matters that are already being dealt with by another solicitor.

The main focus of the site is to support and direct dads to expert information. As you already have legal representation, and need legal advice, I can only suggest that you go back to the law firm that you have instructed and ask them to advise on this situation.
