I recently split with my ex. she has a non mol out and i havnt seen my son in 8 weeks. i have my first contact hearing start of next month.
I had been living with my son up until the break up. paying rent buying food basically providing for his up keep. there are no paper trails but i am fighting the non mol which is based on me apparently not living in the home with my ex and son. complete lies and i have all the bills and other things addressed to me.

i havnt yet payed csa, how would i go about it and would they back date all payments to the day my son was born. he's now 18 months

If you want to pay through the CSA all you have to do is contact them and give them details of your earnings so that they can open a case and work out how much you need to pay. They will only take payment from the date the case is opened. It can take a good few weeks for them to sort out payment so it would be advisable to start putting an amount away each payday so that you won't have to find a larger amount at the point that the payments are up and running. To find out roughly how much you might expect to pay you can google the CSA calculator, input your details and you will be given an estimate of the amount.

When I contacted them to make arrangements they backdated it to either the date we broke up or the date I applied. There was only a week or so between them so I don't remember exactly. But it's definitely not back as far. S birth.

It starts from the day of application, there's no need for you to worry about them backdating it from the child's birth.

It sometimes happens that the receiving parent has opened a claim and for whatever reason the paying parent hasn't received notification of this from the CSA, perhaps because they moved ....this can go unchecked for years and at the point that the CSA do catch up with them there could be a huge amount of arrears.

So the only way they would backdate it is if the mother has already started a claim with them, but it would only be from the day that she first contacted them.

thanks for the advise, think the best thing would be to make an application and not let my ex throw any surprises at me. 😉
