[Solved] Changing solicitor - manchester area

I have finally had enough of my solicitor who has misadvised me, refused to answer questions leaving me to chase her up for weeks/months on end and has still not given me any answers to questions I have asked her to convey to my ex 3 or 4 months ago.
I have been instructed by legal aid on how to transfer my certificate so I was hoping there was a place on the internet where I could find ratings/recommendations for a reliable family solicitor in the Oldham/ Manchester area.
I would like to hear a unbiased view before I commit as I really would not want a repeat performance.

I had a similar experience with my solicitor. It wasn't so much her advice - which I thought bordered on pessimism - but the slack service provided by the firm. Like you I would wait for weeks to get a response to simple questions, which would only come after several telephone or email reminders. To be honest, I felt that she was more sympathetic of my ex and treated me like a low priority case because I received legal aid.

I have to say - in fairness - that things did improve, but it appears that you've had enough and I can understand that!

I'm not sure what to suggest. I'm not aware of a forum that uses such a ratings system, but it sounds like a [censored] good idea! Is there an internet site for your local law society? Perhaps you can contact them and see whether they can refer you to a firm?

I don't think there is any such site where you can rate solicitors (let's face it, who would take the risk of it - you'd be guaranteed to have a legal action against you). I would draw up a short list of solicitors and go for a free consulation with each of them - a lot of choosing a solicitor is that it just feels right to you, but also make clear why you are leaving your existing solicitors so they know what you expect of them.

Haha, l I guess you are right, if you were wanting to get sued for libel this would be the right way to go about it!
For the benefit of anyone else wanting to swap solicitors the legal services commision said that I have to send evidence that I have tried to resolve my issues with my current solicitor to my new one and they would then handle the transfer of my certificate to themselves and contact my previous one to arrange receipt of nescessary documents.
