I need 5 hours a week every tuesday afternoon off work for the next 13weeks (untill the 2nd baby is born) to look after my 14month old son as my fiance is 6months pregnant and is having quite regular contractions and alot of stomach pain,so she cannot pick our son up to look after him properly, iv asked work to lower my hours and they have refused and i have no holidays left as iv had to use them all due to other emergencies. theres no real problem as i will have the time off regardless as i cannot be in two places at once and my sons welfare comes first. however i just wanted to know where i stand with what to take as parental leave has to be in blocks of weeks only, and compassionate leave can be refused too also time off for dependants doesnt state how long or the hours i can have off work, i just need to know if im legally allowed to have this time off work as if not then i will have to pack up my job for the sake of 5hours a week. hope you can help, thanks, paul.

I'm not an expert in employment law, but I'll ask our friends at the Coram Children's Legal Centre (CCLC) to pop by and see whether they have any advice for you!
