Hi folks,

Just been wondering about legal aid and my own situation - I have had to contact debt support agency regarding my finances following a divorce settlement. I have only seen my daughter with her mother since our separation 5 years ago. My dau hasnt ever stayed oernight with me in that time. Three years ago I moved from Ireland to England to be with my new partner and travel back monthly to see my dau. She doesnt want (thru her mother) to stay overnight with me on my return nor to have anything to do with my new partner and her family. This causes a lot of tension and I would love to sort out contact arrangements with a court (former wife refused mediation) As I hae a strict budget, I can't afford court costs and I dont know if being on a debt management plan would render me eligible for legal aid to establish meaningful contact. Just wondered if anyone was in the same boat or could offer advice? many thanks...

Legal aid is no longer given for child cases unless there is domestic violence involved, or unless you are in scotland. You can self-represent, which plenty on here are doing, or have done, so there is plenty of advice to be had for that.

If you choose to self represent and you are on a low income you can get help with the court fee, this would normally be £200. You would need to apply for exemption with the EX160a. To apply for a contact order you would need form C100.

Which part of Ireland does your daughter live, if its in the south there would probably be a different system. You would have to apply to,a court that is local to your daughters mother.
