If I decide to go down the route of mediation (looking very likely now)

Do I inform my ex or do I get the mediators to inform her by letter? What is the best and recommended practice please?

Regards Justme

I think its better to let the mediator make contact....its on headed paper and is just more formal. Where she would have no problem refusing you directly, she might think twice if its through a third party.
