Name change application – whats the position? – what are the chances of preventing a double barrelled name change ? – my sons registered in his fathers (my) name for 2 ½ years but now an application for double barrelled name change has been filed by ex-partner, in itself shared parenting and both names are fair in my opinion (but no “shared parenting” was prepared to be awarded by the court - and instead a cop out, (“just to leave as it is with both parents having joint parental responsibility”) will the current application subsequently be likely successful to have a double barrelled name else subsequently if granted then remove fathers surname. Please help its an attempt to remove me from our sons life by my ex and also potentially then make a separate application once its double barrelled to “omit” my name formally via court system else when addressing him in his life whats the experience of others and is this application likely to be successful?

I would simply object to the name change, after all you are the child's father. I am afraid I don't know what the Courts will do in this circumstance, whether they will grant the application or not. I think more and more children are being double barrelled that I am guessing the Courts may agree, or the other parent does.

Apparently this double barrelling is becoming accepted practice, I would say its likely to be successful but I don't think that would open the door to legally dropping your surname at a later date.

I agree, the only thing is whether it is informally dropped i.e. at school etc. I am guessing that goes on too :boohoo:

I think he can counter that by keeping in contact with the school and insisting the name isn't changed...theres been another post about this recently and that was the concensus.

Ta NJ yes you should do that ...and yes there was a chat about this elsewhere too..and giving the school a copy of the final Order is probably the best thing to do! LOL!
