Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.

As you and your ex are still communicating, it would be worth considering mediation before you look to solicitors. In addition, if you haven't engaged a solicitor, we are able to ask our experts at the Coram Childrens Legal Centre to give legal advice. There is an added complication that your ex is now in Scotland, so you may need someone with knowledge of the Scottish Legal system, so it may be worth having a word with the Scottish Child Law Centre (www.sclc.org.uk).

hi actd thanks for the reply my ex does not want any thing other than solicitors but will happily engage in contact via email and phone calls she only moved to scotland on thursday.
i was not aware that the scottish legal system may be different to out english one.
i currently do not have any solictors involved at this moment in time how can i contact Coram childrens legal centre.
plus another snag that may hinder me is i am not on the birth certificate for my daughter will this hinder even more.

The national mediation service is a recognised service, and a court will usually expect mediation to have been tried first, so you could tell this to your ex - is an agreement can be reached, then it can be put into a court order - this could save you a substantial amount of money (which you will need to be able to maintain contact over such a distance). The contact details for the CCLC are at the bottom of the forum, but if you have any specific questions, you can post them on here and we'll ask them to reply on here.
