I was in court yesterday for a child welfare hearing to arrange for contact with my children, my ex wife is trying to cut me out of my childrens lives, she totally blind sided events with a report from a so called Social Worker who had interviewed my youngest son, age 8. Her solicitor didn't know anything about it and neither did mine. She sent the report directly to the court. The question I have can this Social Worker interview my son without my permission? The Sherrif has now ordered a bar report, but this will not be heard now until the 21 Sep, meanwhile I have limited access to my son. I have some doubts as to whether the Social Worker is a properly trained Social Worker.

Hi Geoff,

Are you based in Scotland? If so, the law up there is a little different to that of England and Wales. Your solicitor would be better able to advise you on this matter than I would.

Unfortunately I really don't know enough about the law up in Scotland to comment, but I agree - it does sound very strange. What has your solicitor advised or said about this?
