[Solved] Sorting finances: anyone represented themselves?

I had my Final Hearing for residency orders on Friday. Though we didn't get a judgement and will have to wait at least four weeks for one, I need to start things moving with sorting the finances out, if only to pay the >£15k + VAT I owe the solicitors. 🙁

My wife told me this morning that the finances will have to wait as she can't afford a solicitor. I can't afford to wait so I'm going to have to move this on unilaterally. I want to avoid legal costs if at all possible and am quite happy to represent myself in court if needs be.

I've read the stick about representing yourself, but that's regarding contact orders etc. Does anyone have experience of doing this for the finances side of things? I'm also interested if anyone has any good resources; links, books, blogs etc.

Hi Mate,
You can represent yourself have you tried asking on Wikivorce? As there is a specific section on there for your issue.

One suggestion might be to use your solicitor for the technical side of submitting forms etc and occasional advice, but do the rest of the work yourself - speak to your solicitor about this possibly as an alternative to him handing everything over to you.

Thanks, I have already spoken to her and she's fine with this arrangement. She's actually been very good about costs etc and understands how ridiculous they have got.

I am just starting the same... The government website gives good clear guidance on the process forms etc. The courts expect you to go to financial mediation so I would start with offering that in writing. Let me know if you get any good tips, could do with them 🙂
