My statement for my court hearing is 5 pages long and then has quite a few pages of evidence, is there a limit ?

For my court case I submitted a 12 page statement and 8 pages of evidence. I would advise to make sure everything runs in a chronological order and also to break everything down into numbered paragraphs rather than a really long page of words as it will be easier for the judge to look through and for you to refer to during. E.G you can refer to item 18 of your statement and everyone knows where to look.

I agree, keep the statement as concise as possible - chronological advice is useful in some instances, but it may also be worth considering having the most important points at the front if it's getting very long, so that if it's not read fully by the judge, at least the most important points will be.

My statements were always about 3 or 4 pages (and there were a lot of statements), the evidence sometimes ran to 40 or 50 pages, plus a 50 odd page Cafcass report.

Hopefully, yoji will comment on here as he's pretty hot at this stuff 🙂

Hi darko,

What exactly are you applying for?
What issues are around the application?

Its difficult to guess... a generally straight forward application should most likely be just touching double figures. If there are issues/concerns/services involvement then thats where the page count should be going up. Reports etc start to take paperwork up, but are most likely necessary.

If this is your first statement, you could break it down into sections:
Background (What was contact like before, when and why did it change, how did you feel about this etc)
Circumstance (Whats going on currently and led to you making a Court Application)
[Response] --> Only included if you have to write your statement after your ex submits hers to you
Medical Requirements (If children have any, list them and say how you will accommodate these... equally if there are none: "CHILD does not suffer from any medical condition that would affect contact)
Request (What you want the Court to do, why and when)
Closing (Statement to the Court to consider this is always from the heart)
Sign and Date

(Don't forget a statement of truth: I [NAME] of [ADDRESS] confirm that the enclosed information is to the best of my knowledge, accurate and true and that they may be questioned on the merits to which the Court may require.

I think i have posted in another of your threads... if you like i can send over a blank statement.
