Hi all

What I'm looking for is to do the whole court process by myself but I'm completely out of clue as to what I have to do. I am looking to get every weekend with him from Friday to Sunday I know this might be a bit much so would settle for every other weekend from Friday to Sunday with a week or two during bank holidays.

I have got pages of written documents and texts to back it up which I keep up to date.

Any advice would be fantastic.

Hi Karl and welcome 🙂

You've come to the right place! There are lots of members that have been through or are going through the court process without a solicitor and its doable. If you take a look at the top of the Legal Eagle section you will find a couple of stickys about representing yourself and one about the C100 form which is the form you would need to submit to the court to apply for contact. The court fee for this is £200.

It might be advisable to try Mediation first, the judge will expect this to have been attempted before bringing the case to court. There is a charge for this too but I think they are linked to how much you earn. Its better to attend a Mediation centre nearest to where your ex lives so that she cant use distance as an excuse not to attend. However if she refuses this you will be given an FM1 form which tells the court that Mediation was not possible and the reason why. You would then submit this form with the C100 when you apply for contact. Heres is a link to the National Mediation Service -

As of April Legal Aid for Family Law cases has been stopped, so your ex would also have to either self represent or pay huge amounts for a solicitor. There are some women that make allegations of domestic abuse as Legal Aid is still available free when there has been violence in the relationship....I only mention this to make you aware of it.

Its alsio advisable not to give any details in your posts, like names or places, just in case! So it might be a good idea just to edit that from your above post.

I am going to send you a pm so have a look at your messages inbox! 🙂

I've edited your post for you to remove any personal details, NJ is right it's best to keep this out of your posts where possible as if your ex stubmles across this site she will be able to put 2 and 2 together easier.

There are plenty of us who have been through court and represented ourselves.

Read Yoji's guide in the legal section and post any questions and we will try and answer them.
