Well finally got the CAFCASS section 7 report and they have recomended supervised vists
consisting of six vists which would be referred by CAFCASS
How do I find out more about these if the Judge agrees? As in, how long would each session be, where would it be, will the mother be present etc? who has to pay for the contact centre?
she has also recomended that I write my son a letter with a picture, which is great, but what on earth do I write/
he is 4yrs old and I have never met him, how do I explain that without being negative to his mum

Well thats a start and six sessions is doable...Hopefully the court will go with the CAFCASS recommendations and you can get the ball rolling.
I think a session would last 1-2hrs depending on the Centre that you use. It will probably be at one of the recognized Centres run by the NACCC, or it could be at one if the Centres available to Childrens Services...IMO its more likely to be the first. The mother would'nt be present and it would be you the child and the support worker that would be supervising and taking notes. The cost would usually be your responsibility but again I'm not sure as I think this can vary. Here is a link to the NACCC website so that you can get a feel forwhat its all about -

The letter you write should be short and sweet I think, he's only 4 and I take it it will be his mum that will be reading it to him. You could just say hello and how you cant wait to meet him and get to know him. Tell him a little bit about yourself....for example where you work, if you've got a pet and what you like to do for fun like what football team you support. Maybe a bit about what you hope to do together when you've got to know each other....just keep it simple in words that he can understand.
