Well, I had mine done 15th jan-10. I was crapping my-self a week before the Operation, as all men would do. For me it was not the result of the Operation, i.e no more kids, it was the worry of what could go wrong!, Had mine done at the Elliot Clinic at the Churchill Oxford. I was told by the Doc that some 40,000 Ops have been done there.

My appointment was at 2.15 and we got there at 1.55pm, only because the traffic was good and not because I was keen to get it done. As soon as I wallked through the door I was told to sit down and the wife was sent to the waiting room with the other giggling wifes. The nurse asked me that I was still ok to have the Op done and made sure that everything was explained to me and showed me the diagram to double check I knew what was going to happen, this only took 2 mins and then a nurse asked me to get changed in to a gown, this only took a few mins and before I knew it the Doc had come and took me into the Op room, literally under 10 mins from arriving I was in there and lying down. The doc again explains everything thats going to happen.

He lifts the gown to your tummy and a blanket up to your thighs then a cover with a hole so he literally sees just your nuts. Then he splashes on the yellow iodine ( I think). Then its time for the injection, one on the left and one on the right side, you dont really feel this at all which surprised me but you do feel a slight discomfort more on the right side. Then its a quick test to make sure that it is numb. Then he makes a insision in the middle of the scrotum about 1 inch or so from the base of the Penus. Not sure what happpens as did not feel a thing, only a tugging feeling from inside the tummy but did not hurt at all, he removes about an inch of the tube from each testicle and shows you and heat seals the tubes shut. Luckily I could not smell it as the smoke was rising upwards. Took 10 mins and there was no pain at all.

I was told not to bath or shower for 48hrs afterwards and he recommended wearing two pair of tight underwear. I asked him if infection was possible because of not washing for 48hrs, he explained that any infection you catch is due to the Op room and if there were bugs there. Sooooo if the people responsible do their jobs right then all should be ok. Then off for a cup of tea or coffee and get changed again.

After the Op you are told to rest in bed for 24hrs, I did this even though I felt fine. 4 hrs after the Op there was no pain and I was wondering if the anithsectic ( spelt that wrong but hay Hoo) was still in effect. But I did what I was told and did not move except to go to the loo for 24hrs and was fine. going to the loo was fine with no pain at all. Good advise is, even if you feel fine dont get up and walk around doing things thinking you will be ok as this is when you can do some real damage. DO AS YOU ARE TOLD AND YOU WILL BE FINE. its now 5 days after the Op and no problems, had sex with the wife and all worked as it should have, no change in the feeling you get when you shoot your load...thank God!!! I am not saying that all Vasectomies are ok but mine was a breeze and the thought of getting it done is worse than the Op. Good luck and remember.....Do as you are told!! also make sure the wife/partner looks after you. If she is the lazy type or unsympathetic then think twice about getting it done as you do need some one to look after you. As a warning a friend had it done and decided to unload a tesco delivery so carried the bags to the kitchen from the front door.......3 weeks off wk after that and a huge amount of pain.

I have a top tip for anyone who has just had or is about to have a vasectomy.

DO NOT GO ON YOUR KIDS TRAMPOLINE FOR AT LEAST SIX WEEKS AFTERWARDS!!!!

Boy did I suffer!!!

Supes - belgianfn - actd - Triodz, All four of you are far braver than I could ever be - you have my admiration.

though the medal for supreme bravery has to go to the man who had the snip, had it repaired and then went back for the snip again :o lol:

The closest i have let a surgeon near my love spuds is two hernia ops and a appendix removal and they were too close for comfort

Following a late night trip to our local tesco, with the raging horn (and fear that she might be either asleep or not interested when I got back!) and then bumping into one of the kids from church who had the munchies, the snip was the only choice for me!

Had the op a few weeks back whilst they were demolishing the room next to where I was being prodded. (didn't really want to hear drilling and sawing when the doc was operating!) and now coming up to "test day", I don't think there was any other choice for me.

LOL - just seen this. I don't think I qualify as either - if it had been my choice the second time, the general anaesthetic would have lasted until the brusing had healed

It's good to read some genuine experiences.

The doctor I went to get a referral from was not our usual family doctor and wasn't too bothered about whether I had the snip or not and just said 'yeh no problem I'll get you an appointment'.
So I'm now waiting for my appt to drop on the mat but I'm wishing I had asked more questions.
When they give you the injection is it in the sack or actually in your balls? I'm hoping for the former!!

To be honest, I can't remember where the needle went (for the one which was local anaeshetic) - I think fear/panic was wiping out all other thoughts.

Word of advice for anybody who goes for the snip, go for the test afterwards to make sure it works! I didn't!!!

Oops :o

Does that mean it didn't work at all (I think in a very small number of cases, the tubes can reconnect themselves), or did you just not wait long enough (3 months if I remember correctly)?
