[Solved] Broke my ankle!!

Hi all. So I've just returned from a week in hospital suffering with a broken ankle. I've had surgery and I've got a leg cast on up to my knee and I'm hobbling round on crutches. I've also got a 15 week old baby so this has come at a really inconvenient time! Does anyone have any advice about what I can do to help care for my baby and wife? I feel so guilty that she is now having to do pretty much 100% of the baby care, as well as looking after me as well! Anyone else been in a similar situation? I know I'm going to be limited to what I can do right now but any ideas are welcome, just don't want to see my wife end up burning out.

You could do a little IOU pad for your wife, so that once you are up and around again (I assume in about 6 weeks), she can have an easier few weeks while calling in the IOUs.

Good idea actd!

There's a few things you can do sitting down... folding washing, ironing, food preparation and nursing, feeding changing and playing with baby!

Best of luck and get well soon.

Hi There,

It's going to be difficult while you are recovering, but as said you can make up for that once you can move around again and do what you can now while staying off your ankle.

I would look into ways to make life easier, if you don't already maybe look at doing the weekly shop online and having it delivered, most of the delivery drivers will bring the shopping where ever you want so it could be taken to the kitchen, that would save your partner having to go shopping,

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've been managing better this week and figured out that I can rest my knee on a dining chair so i can stand up in front of the kitchen counters which helps with doing baby bottle washing and meal prep. I've also been able to entertain our baby whilst sat down too. Its not a huge amount but enough to reduce some of the pressure for my missus! Can't wait for this cast to come off!!!

Glad to hear you're managing better! I broke my foot on a piece of large Lego left at the bottom of the stairs a couple of years ago, so you have my sympathy.

Hi There,

Anything you can do will take the pressure off your partner.

Glad you are managing to do a bit more

Oh, wow - a double injury, there isn't a much worse injury than stepping on a lego brick, even without breaking your foot.
