I have to say I agree with your ex. It's not to do with the age gap, more that I think you would probably benefit from some time alone and to do some work on yourself. From what you've said, it sounds like you've just dragged the baggage from your marriage in to your new relationship without actually dealing with it. Sometimes it's harder to be alone and face our difficulties than it is to have a new relationship to distract us from them.
