I received an email from MyHeritage this morning (one day, I'll figure out how to stop their emails) - this is one of the family tree websites that I joined some time back with the idea of putting online a family tree for my children. They are offering a new service where you can buy a DNA test and it can then start to trace your origins.
I have no objection to government bodies (police etc) holding my DNA should they wish on the basis (perhaps misguidedly on my part) that they will only be used for legitimate purposes, but I am definitely uneasy about a commercial enterprise holding such information.
- Samaritans – call 116 123
