Hi Sarah
My daughter has recently reached 16 and the csa some time ago told me to inform them when she did as the carers allowance would stop, I have done this recently and they have now told me that the case will be reassesed and the payments will go up to compensate! is this correct? surely it stops for a reason and to then add more money to compensate is unfair and wrong
many thanks
steve

Hi and welcome

Can you expand on why a carers allowance is being paid, and what percentage of your income are you paying currently?

Hi the carers allowances is a figure set by the government to be included in the assessment until the child is 15 when it halves to £35 p/w then stops when they are 16. I pay £400 p/m which equates to just over 20%and I am on the old rules
Thx
Steve

Thanks for that. I'll ask CMO if they can give any advice on this.

Hi there, thanks for your question.

Steve, can you please clarify, when you say carers allowance, are you talking about your exempt income under 1993 scheme rules?

Thanks,

Sarah.

Hi
No the carers allowance makes up
Part of the assessment and is payed to the PWC, its supposed to end when the child is 16 so my payment will go down, but the csa have told me that they will just readjust the figure to keep it so I pay the same amount which in my book is not only unfair but not even mentioned anywhere in their literature

Cheers

Steve

Hi again Steve.

I've looked into the policy in this area but its difficult to give you an accurate answer without knowing the specific details of the case. Because I cant access CSA case information, all I can suggest is that you contact the CSA and ask them to explain why and how they have come to this decision. What I would say though is keep making your payments until this is sorted out - if it turns out you have overpaid then the CSA may offset the money against any arrears you may owe, or allocate against future payments. Or you may feel that as the money has gone to your daughter, you're happy to let the overpayment go.

Sorry that I cant be of more help, I hope you get things sorted soon.
