Well, I'm not too sure it's a trojan horse but it's what I think. Anyways, one of my friends messaged me on msn saying, "is this you ? lol" then gave me a link. I clicked on it and it was one of those things where you have to download it. So I did. (I know, I'm very gullible D:) So I went back on msn, the computer was doing tthings automatically by itself. Everytime I tried to message someone, as soon as I start typing, it sends the same thing. "is this you ? lol" then the link. It then starts sending to every single person who's online on my list. I shut down my laptop and I try again. It still keeps doing the same thing on my msn. The trojan horse is in my msn. Should I get rid of this virus by completely deleting my whole windows live messenger and reinstalling it again? I'm trying to get the simplest ways to get rid of this virus, besides restoring my laptop. Also can I have simple explanations with not too big words? I'm not really that intelligent, haha. Thanks again, every answer matters 🙂

Worth installing an anti-virus. I use AVG as it's free and pretty good - search for 'AVG Free' in google and you'll find it. It will try to push you to install the 'better' version - free for 30 days - ignore this one and go for the completely free version (version 8.5 I think) - once installed, let it do a complete scan of your PC - will take quite some time, but will clean it up nicely.

AVG Free
Spybot Search and Destroy
The Disk Cleanup

Should fix pretty much most technical issues an average computer user would have. If thats not resolved the issue its something serious 🙂

Try and refrain from signing into MSN Messenger or using that email address to email people as there's a chance you could spread the virus to somebody else.

I wouldn't touch AVG with a barge pole - It doesn't pick up on a lot of trojans. Out of the freebies I would go for the new Microsoft Security Essentials (and I am not normally a MS fan). However when it comes to firewalls and virus scanners I would recommend a pay one. I'm covered at home by Kaspersky.

This is just my opinion and not official advice from Dadtalk 😉

IT bod here said he wasn't a fan of AVG yesterday. I can only say I've never been hit on my home PC by anything malicious - mind you, I don't tend to be on any sites that I don't know too well, so I may just have been lucky.

Hi there

There are loads of anti virus programs and believe me I have tried them all. I now use one called Nod32 by Eset and I have to pay for it (it isnt cheap) however it is the best one on the market by a long way.

Do not go near Norton - it is the equivalent of having a burglar alarm and leaving your door wide open!!!

Regards
Mario
