Hi

My name is Rupert, i'm a combat photographer in the British Army and I just have become a dad to a lovely little girl called Grace.

I am on tour in Afghanistan but managed to time my 2 week r&r with her birth but head back next week which I find hard to think about. I will have 4 months away from her. If there are any other dads who have had to, or are dealing with time away from their 1st child and can offer any advice that would be great.

If any of you want some advice on taking photos of your little ones or are thinking about buying a camera, feel free to ask.

Hi armydad

Welcome to Dadtalk and congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter. Lovely name. I can only imagine how tough it is going to be for you to return to Afghanistan just when you are getting to know your baby. I hope the time will pass quickly for you. I hope there are other dads who read your post and who can give you advice about how to cope with a long term absence like this.
