I do get to see my daughter, I get to see her from 6pm on a saturday night till 6pm on a sunday night. Then during the week I get her for 4 hours. Its more than what most parents get. Taking into consideration the travel time which is 30mins to pick, Charlie, my daughter up and 30 mins back, I asked my ex if i could have her for an extra hour or 2 and got refused.

We settled the custody out of court, so its an amicable agreement. What I actually want is to see my daughter during the week, and then on a weekend pick her up at 12pm on a saturday and return her at 6pm on a sunday evening. I do not think that I am being unreasonable one bit. Most fathers arent interested in how much time they spend with their children, but I as most of you are.

What are your thoughts and what rights do you think I am considering I have parental responsibilities?

Thanks.
John-Craig

My first thoughts here are that if your ex grants what you want, it actually leaves her with a lot less quality time with your daughter (ie weekends as weekdays will be taken up with after school/work stuff - I'm making an assumption as you don't say if your ex works or how old your daughter is). Perhaps you could suggest that instead of every week, you have her for the times you suggest every alternate week.

Sorry for the delay, I thought I replied to this. BAck to what I was saying. My ex doesnt work and spends most of her time with my daughter. She prefers me to have her on a saturday so she can go out with her mates etc. I dont think I am being unreasonable and she gets plenty of time with her throughout the week.

Hi again

If you want to try to get extra time with your daughter then you may want to consider mediation with your ex as a way of doing this without involving the courts, or as actd says, go for longer hours on alternative weekends. If you want to find out more about mediation as an option. You can call the National Family Mediation and their number is 01392 271610 or http://www.nfm.org.uk telling you more about them.

I hope this helps but let us know how you get on.
