Hello all,

New to this. Been divorced for four years now. I have twins of 12 (girl and a boy) My son is finding it hard since i re-married. Particularly as my new wife has a son the same age. He seems to think I'm doing all the stuff with my new wife's son I should be doing with him. Could write for ages here! I've had regular contact with my kids, but going through a really tough time at the moment. Just wondered if anyone on here had any advice? Particularly concerning my son's self confidence which seems to be so low!

Hi Spange and welcome 🙂

How do you get on with the mother? It might be helpful to talk to her about it and see what you can come up with, maybe more indirect contact such as phone, email and txts, as well as your regular contact. Maybe think about taking him away somewhere for the weekend, just the two of you, for some male bonding stuff... make it something regular that he can look forward to thats just for him...

12 is a funny age, its transitional.....not a little boy, but not a teenager either, an inbetweenie. His hormones are stirring and allsorts of changes are starting to take place.

I think he'll need lots of reassurance that hes important and nobody can ever take his place. This wont happen overnight but if you are consistent and put some effort into making him feel valued he will come round.
