Hi!

Became a Dad for the first time last Tuesday evening (13th Dec), and as has been highlighted a couple of times i other threads, I was looking for a source of info that wasn't catered specifically for the Fairer [censored]!

Spent a lot of time reading pregnancy books and attending antenatal classes aimed towards women, but couldn't really find anything dad-orientated.

Stumbled across this forum earlier this morning, so et voila!

Looking forward to milking the current users for help during those 4am walkabouts!!

Cheers

Hi there

Welcome to Dadtalk and enjoy those 4am feeds!! I sure don't miss them!!

Big question - despite only being 12 days old did you child (you haven't said boy or girl!!!) receive loads of pressies!!

My son was born on 23rd December several years ago and we still bought him some presents for Xmas

Sorry lads, thought I'd mentioned it...

I (I say I, I mean 'we') had a boy; all 7lb 12oz of him.

He's my mum's first grandchild, and what with the abundance of friends/family who're on child number 2, the little blighter was inundated with presents! Really put my deodorant/aftershave/sock collection to shame lol.

He was due on the 26th, so there was always going to be the birthday and christmas present combined present debate, but I reckon he may well have missed it by a fraction.

Super Mario: does your nipper have that issue? Relatives claiming the combination present??

We thought we would have that issue but we put our foot down very early on and made sure everyone treated the two separately. It does work and my son enjoys the fact that he gets presents for 5 days on the trot!!

The 23rd is his day and even (like this year) if one relative cannot see him at Xmas then he is not allowed to open his Xmas presents on the 23rd.

My eldest said this year that he thought that the other one should only get one present so I told him that was fine but he would also only get one present for 2012!! He soon changed his mind!

Thank you one and all for the welcome.

With regards to the body clock posts: I've been pretty fortunate to have a job where I can dictate my time off, so have taken a whole month with paternity and holiday combo... I reckon this may well be a double edged sword though!

Sleeping is on the 'as and when he's asleep' rotation, so when I do eventually get back to work it's going to be a nightmare!

We've been told to try to get him into a rhythm as quickly as possible, but at this stage he's suffering from:
1. Reflux
2. Colic
3. Umbilical hernia
4. A mild thrush infection on his [censored]-hole

Poor little [censored]'s only been here 3 weeks!!!

Dude, I had 6 weeks off work, went back this week. It was brilliant being off with him for soooo long, but rough on my first day back, really missed him, so enjoy the time while you can, it'll go before you realise it.

As for the reflux, are you sure he has? Not to doubt you or anything but we were told by the hospital our little man has reflux and were sent home with gallons of medicine, syringes etc. He doesnt have it and we stopped it all the day we got home, he's barely been sick since. They dont always get it right.

Hope you're bloke gets better though, mine had a chest infection at 3 weeks, then an allergic reaction to antibiotics so its been a bumpy ride. Hope he feels better soon

I did originally have that thought, but they didn't start plying him with drugs so was a little less sceptical.

Our problem came about because the missus' tear became infected so she had to go on a course of antibiotics; then they took a swab of his umbilical 'hole' after the cord dropped off (right when I was changing the nappy; not my finest moment!) and was also given a course of antibiotics...

I called the Doc straight away, telling him that because he's breast fed, he's surely getting a double-dose! I was told I had to bring him in to be checked, but had to take in the birth certificate first to register him.
Now, it being Christmas, the Council offices were closed; subsequently, couldn't get him registered.

Told this to the Docs (well, receptionists). Were they bothered? Not even a rat's [censored]! Demanded to speak to a Doc, but they weren't having any of it...

Anyway, round and round it goes... I've now got him seeing an obstetrician twice a week to try to straighten him up a bit; finally got him registered at doctors who think he's lactose intolerant, and the Health Visitor reckons it's wind so has us doing massage...

First time Dad folks!!!

Don't you just love Doctor's receptionists!!!

My wife took my eldest to doctors today - for an appointment booked by the nurse with an appointment card written by the nurse. She was told by the receptionist that they were an hour late!!! Would she budge or accept her story!!

Luckily the nurse realised her mistake and came out to reception.

Customer Service is definitely not an advantage!!!

Our Dr reception is like the Spanish Inquisition..... I admit one day to asking whether she was a Dr on the phone.... It just slipped out when she was probing my symptoms!! Needless to say I didn't get a warm response....

Sounds like a dangerous tip given they are incontrol of the booking system and your medical notes!!

I seem to remember there are codes that nurses & dr's use on notes to tell each other about a difficult patients etc..... does anyone know them? Maybe Ronaldo could do with checking his medical notes!!
