Hi,

just wondered if anyone had tips for me. me and my wife want to start our daughter drinking her milk from a beaker instead of a bottle but we have tried it but she is just not interested and pushes it away. We end up giving up and tipping it into a bottle as she will then drink it :boohoo: She is 17 months old and think its time we got her off the bottle.

ta muchly

Pete

Hi there 🙂

Its a time of big changes in your little ones life, and lots of new challenges! I wouldn't stress too much about it as she will pick up on the vibes and become more stubborn. She is still only 17months old and her bottle will be comforting for her.

Try giving her her milk in a bottle but put her juice in her beaker and leave it for her to go back to. Tommy Tippee does an inbetween cup, the mouth piece is soft like a teat but its a beaker...I've seen them in Asda as I was going to get one for my Grandson to help him move from bottle to cup. Hes 22 months old and he too prefers his bottle. I've noticed though when I'm having a cup of tea he likes to drink from my cup so I leave him a bit in the bottom!... he will get there in the end, just like your little girl will! 🙂

I haven't got any top tips - but i do know that they won't do it unless they really want to.

Maybe putting juice in the beaker is a good idea and maybe doing the milk at bedtime

Good luck with it

I don't know if it will work with a drinking cup, but it certainly got my son off his dummy in the space of a day - we painted a small amount of nilbite (the stuff you put on fingernails to stop kids biting them - I think it's bitter aloes, but it's perfectly safe) on his dummy - that way he still had it, but lost all inclination to put it in his mouth. If you do the same with a drinking cup, and also have a normal cup with something nice for her to drink, she may decide that she'd prefer the cup.
