Supercharged battery could recharge your mobile in less time that it takes to read this article
How come we’re still waiting for smartphone batteries to be sorted out? While every other form of technology seems to move gracefully ever-forward, the batteries that power our mobiles stubbornly refuse to get any more useful, lasting no more than a day and taking hours to recharge.
Tech company StoreDot appears to have the solution. Its prototype ultra-fast phone charger will restore a smartphone to full power in less than two minutes. It’s going to take you longer to remember where you put your mobile down than it will to actually charge it.

The technology involved replaces the electrolyte that is used in standard batteries with a bio-organic nanocrystal solution. Yep, there’s some serious technology going on here, and there’s more work yet to be done before this is ready for use. Still, the company is aiming to have its product working with our mobiles by 2017.
StoreDot’s previous versions of this technology were too big to be practical, but it says it has now refined the technology to the level where it can be added to a smartphone without adding any extra bulk.
The battery was shown off at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, charging a Samsung Galaxy S5 from nearly empty to full in under two minutes.
However, all is not quite perfect. The trade-off for that lightning-fast charge time is a shorter battery life – with a single charge giving about five hours runtime.
