Bedwetting problems

Bedwetting can be a really embarrassing problem and affects around half a million kids aged 5 – 16 in the UK. We present a short film produced by ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence) that can offer some help.

The film explores the reasons for bedwetting and its impact on 2 young people and their families. It also explains that there are almost always things that can be done to help improve or overcome the problem and how ERIC helps families to help themselves.

Children and their families often feel isolated and under pressure because of the stress bedwetting, daytime wetting, soiling and constipation cause and the stigma that surrounds them. Jack, Paddy and Lorna, who all feature in the film, talk about emotions such as anxiety, fear of being found out, guilt and frustration.

These feelings are very frequently mentioned by callers to ERIC’s weekday Helpline and users of the charity’s online message boards.

Contact ERIC’s Helpline on 0845 370 8008 (Monday – Thursday 10-2), email helpline@eric.org.uk or visit www.eric.org.uk.
