Hi. I hope you can help. My daughter’s last A Level exam is in May 2025. She will be 18. She plans to go to University in September assuming she gets the required grades. When can I stop paying maintenance. Thanks
if your paying through CMS then usually they expect you to make final payment in September, if child starting uni in September.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I misunderstood the current law around us paying..
We only pay up until they are 16 or longer if still in education.
Your last payment would be in May as she finishes main education at this point. once she finishes (I know she is going to Uni in September) but between May and September you are not legally required to pay.
Look up Payments on Gov Website in regards to when you can stop and you will see the section about stopping at 16 unless further education.
Hope this helps
That’s what I was hoping, but everything I read says I need to pay until September.
The Government website isn’t clear, so I’m confused.
