I have an 18 years old who lives with his mum, I don’t see him but pay CSA direct to his mum, he has just finished is A levels and has decided to take a gap year, I am unsure if his is working ft or pt as I don’t have contact
My question is should my CSA stop at 19 which is in two months or will I have to continue to pay until his 20, I have spoken to CSA and they won’t give me a straight answer and keep messing me about
I thank you in advance for any information you can kindly give me

I think it might depend on whether the mother continues to claim child benefit, I would find out if she is entitled to do so whilst he is on a gap year.

Having had a scout around for information about gap years, I think that once he's finished his Alevels he's no longer entitled to child benefit or maintenance, which is only payable up until a child is 20, as long as he/she is in full time, non advanced education. Full time being anything above 12 hours a week and non advanced being up to but not including Uni, although some approved apprenticeships would count.

If the mother is still claiming child benefit, the CSA will probably refuse to close the maintenance claim, but if she's still claiming child benefit, it's fraud and she should have informed the child benefit office that he's left education. Maybe you neeed to put it to her that as he has left she isn't eligible and needs to inform the various agencies of the changes.

Hi there thank you for your reply, both very helpful and far more helpful than CSA

I have called CB to and they will not say yes or no as it based on an individual situation, so i might just have to wait and see ! feel like a fish as the end of the line πŸ™

Hi There,
.
I guess CAB would find it difficult to advise as you saay each case is individual, plus they only advise off things that they can read from thier data base.
.
As already said abovr, CSA/CMS will continue to be payable as long as child benifit is being claimed, You are in limbo at the moment whilst you have no contact and you aren't able to check on the status of the child benifit claim.
