[Solved] Rented property

I am tenant of a rented property (not joint tenancy). My partner moved out with our children and is trying to get the Council to re-house her. I am in full-time employment and do not claim benefits. Can the Council force me to vacate the property so that my ex-partner and children can live there?

Put simply, no! It is a private rental, you are the tenant and its in your name only.... 🙂

Hi There,

Just to agree, no as said the rental agreement is in your name and yours only, they will look to leave you where you are and to re house her.

There is a possibility that she will get re homed in a council estate or block of flats somewhere.

Thanks to all those who have replied to my question. I began to doubt my own reasoning on this one. As I rent privately I just couldn't see how the Council could make me vacate the property.
