[Solved] Vasectomy story

I had the Snip 12 months ago and wanted to share my diary and honest opinion of how the procedure and recovery all went.

Op (Friday 12.30) - pretty scary and could not relax my legs. Believe they give you Valium in the U.S. as tension can make the op more difficult for the surgeon. Left ball was no problems. Right was sore and had to have 2 extra pain jabs. All done successfully.

Friday - surprisingly good. Lay down and iced. Pain meds not needed.

Weekend - again pretty happy. Had quiet weekend but did get up and about a couple of times.

Monday - back to work and not too bad. Ice and a lie down needed after work.

Tuesday - long drive and ok. Lying down after work.

Wednesday - went to work with boxers. Big mistake! Changed at lunch and ok. Also slept without pants in evening.

Thursday - starting to feel better, long work day with 300 miles driving and possibly over did it lifting 2 year old. Slept without pants.

Until this point I have experienced nothing worse than a 2 out of 10 in terms of pain.

Friday - woke up in pain & this continued throughout the day, I think it is the worst it has been and only probably a 3 out of 10 however it was constant. Also very tender and getting the odd shooting pain like a kick in the nuts with quicker movements. I was panicking it might be serious so tried a solo experiment and surprisingly this was not sore. Had a night out with friends and sore so got through it on alcohol.

Saturday - still sore. Very quiet day and started on ibuprofen as I had read about heamatomas and granulomas.

Sunday-Tuesday - Sunday I managed to have try it out properly. We were both very slow and nervous but it all worked as normal with only a bit of discomfort. Now seems to be improving but still very conscious of the whole area. Wound is nearly healed and more of a discomfort than a pain.

Wednesday - recovering I think but did get a knock that nearly made me cry. Seem to be thinking about it less?

Thursday - think my [censored] were more swelled than I thought and now look more relaxed. Not had any pain today and less discomfort.

Friday - 2 full weeks since the op. Wore boxer shorts and felt ok. No pain but not been very active. Wife says [censored] look back to normal.

Weekend - back to normal activity. Played golf and did the garden with no ill effects. Got a decent knock in them from the 3 year old and it hurt no more than it would have done pre op. Gone back to normal boxer shorts. Fingers crossed it's back to normal.

3 weeks - thought they were back to normal , next to no tenderness . Back wearing normal boxer shorts, rough play with the children and been on the trampoline. Good week apart from Wednesday , after a visit to the park I had an ache in the left hand side went back to sleeping in pants that night and all aching and tenderness was gone in the morning

16th of October/5 weeks - just come back from a week abroad and happy to say no issues.

January - I had not been running for 4 months due to a different injury and laziness but happy to say no issues.

19th February - sample produced. 5 months on and they do feel more sensitive I think but this could just be psychological.

11th May - first sample back and no little men present.

12th September - I forgot yesterday was my anniversary, all is good. There is a tender bit of scar tissue on the tube if I try to find it but I get no pain. I have had no ill effects to performance or desire and apart from a bit of mickey taking from friends it was probably worth it.

My recommendations and points to remember,
- relax and don't worry about it, I know that is not easy but I believed the scare stories and panicked!!
- it does hurt when being done and ache after but no worse than a trip to the dentist.
- it will take 2 weeks minimum to stop aching and 4-6 weeks to heal. Do not listen to people that say it was ok in 3 days or they were back on the building site the next day...
- wear tight pants day & night for at least a week.
- anti inflammatory pain meds help the healing. Take them for a week whether you think you need them or not.
- don't lift anything heavy if possible for 2 weeks.
- I also wished I had a picture of my [censored] prior to the op. As above I now know mine were more swelled than I thought but had nothing to compare.

Hi there

Thanks for that....I'm sure any guys contemplating the snip will appreciate reading your story.

I've moved your thread into the men's health section, hopefully others who can share their experiences.

Had it done twice, with a reversal in between.

If you can have a general anaesthetic, I'd go for it rather than the local 🙂
