Assassin’s Creed creators apologise for bug-filled release

“I want to sincerely apologise,” says chief developer, as free content is offered to those who’ve bought the game

The head of the team that developed Assassin’s Creed Unity has apologised for the bugs that have blighted the newly released game.

“At launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues,” wrote Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto, in an email to customers.

“I want to sincerely apologise on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team.”

He promised everyone who has bought Unity will get the first downloadable expansion pack for free, while those who bought some of the special editions will also get a free game.

Unity was released on 11 November, and as soon as it came out gamers started commenting on a litany of major bugs and flaws in the game.

Players have experienced bugs that included characters disappearing through the floor and becoming stuck inside background objects, as well as seeing characters’ faces disappear. There have also been numerous complaints about the game running at too low a speed.

Since the game’s release, Ubisoft has released several patches to tackle the problems gamers are facing with Unity. However, conversation on its website suggests it is a long way from fully fixing the game.

As a result of the disastrous launch, Ubisoft is making the upcoming Dead Kings downloadable content free for anyone with a copy of Unity.

Those who bought either the Season Pass or the Gold Edition of the game will also be treated to a free game. These gamers can choose from the following Ubisoft titles:

 – The Crew
 – Far Cry 4
 – Watch Dogs
 – Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
 – Rayman Legends
 – Just Dance 2015
