I have recently become signed of work. I currently pay my ex csa every month and have done for years. I have no income untill I get sick pay which isnt much. What happens with csa payments? She isnt very understanding at all so can't really talk to her about this. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Hi,

If your paying through CMS, then I would suggest to wait until your sick pay/benefits is approved and you got notification about it. Then ring CMS to let them know. They should put you on £7 a week, or even nil rate (zero) if kids stay with you 1 or 2 nights a week. They will send the updated changes  to you in writing, and same same to your ex. So no need to discuss anything with her.

  • @bill337 thanks for replying. I don't actually pay through CMS I have a family based arrangement so I pay her every month by standing order. Just not sure what to do 😑🤔

Hi,

You can try the CMS calculator: https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance

You can let your ex know the result of it. If she's not happy, she may go to CMS, and most likely end up with same payment situation. If your going to be off work for a short while, perhaps you can see if she will accept a reduced amount for now.

if your receiving state income support, from DWP, submit your schedule as proof of receiving payments, cms will have access to this. the payments will be adjusted based on that information. they will put you on minimal or 0.

you must remember, cms only go by evidence that has substance, nothing you say will stick unless you have something to back it with.

also please be advised, if you have a schedule and says you must pay, do not under any circumstances refuse to pay or not pay anything unless the schedule says £0.

you must pay something you can afford, until you got an up-tp-date schedule.
