How many of you here and involved in the PTA meetings etc with your childrens schooling?
We seem to have a PTA meeting every six weeks or so, and I seem to be the only male that turns up. Granted a lot of the time the meeting times are awkward and can be difficult for people to get out of work and there on time, but they could make the effort sometimes.
Also being the only male to turn up, I tend to be the one that gets volunteered for a lot of the more 'manly' things. Don't get me wrong I don't mind doing it, just it would be nice to be asked to do it at times
I also find, with this headmaster in particlar, he doesn't like taking other peoples opinions on board, so it does get to the point where we think, why are we here, just put it in a news letter and be done with it
What's your experiences with such meetings?
Quite a few years since I was on the PTA but found it to be a worthwhile and enjoyable time. Our village primary school is very small and without the PTA's involvement the children would have gone without so much. We paid for the swimming pool to run in the summer, new library, nature garden, play equipment etc etc. You are right though, the guys always seem to end up with the manly jobs. I still attend PTA events such as quiz nights, race nights, safari suppers occasionally but after my kids leaving the school some 7 years ago now, it is amazing how many new faces there are.
I am a member of my kids school PTA. I do not attend the meetings due to the timing but am very involved in the activities that they plan, discos, talent contests, christmas meals :p , etc
There are not many parents involved and only a couple of dads. Many more mum involved. I find it very worthwhile though as these activiites cannot run by themselves. You know the old adage, "if you want something to happen, you have to make it happen" or at least help others make it happen π
The kids also like me being there and most of all I get to be involved.
