As a father you sort of feel you should be the font of all knowledge...
However my son asked "what is the name for the back of the hand"...? Everything else has a label, palm, knuckles, etc....
Any clues...
Oh come on... there must be some guesses... your letting down the men...
I will get my wife to post the question on mumsnet - then you'll be embarassed... 😳
Everything else has a label, palm, knuckles, etc....
Everything? The back of the torso just gets called the "back", so at least the back of the hand has something going for it. Or perhaps we all know it so well it doesn't need a specific name 🙄
A more common question would be how to name boys and girls private parts 😳 Adults know how to politely avoid saying the actual names when necessary (and then saying them anyway in irrelevant contexts when they're annoyed/drunk), and teenagers presumably know all the possible descriptions. But for those of us with young children, what do you say? Do you give them their proper names, or make up some cute names?
This will probably get censored by the moderators anyway...
Typical I ask a straight forward question, and I only get more questions... 🙄
Actually, if the moderators have to ban the words being used it implies that you are unlikely to be worried about what words you do use...
Mind you there is always the tale of our friends who are biologists and quite happily used all the biologically correct terms. So at the age of 4 she was telling the class and teacher about her v****** - which certainly made the teacher's day...
Hey, I just came across this topic and I thought I'd give you your answer since you haven't had one - that I know of.
The name for the back of one's hand is the 'opisthenar'.
You learn something new everyday... cheers 😉
PS Whats the name of that bits of skin between you mouth and nose called again?
That's called your 'philtrum'.
