Hi Pete-c,

I'm sorry but I don't know where you stand as far as the CSA are concerned. I can suggest that you contact Child Maintenance Options who will be able to give you advice. They are independent so will give you totally impartial advice. You can call them on 0800 988 0988 (Lines are open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm Saturday) or visit their website at Child Maintenance Options.

when you get an answer why not pop back and let us know - given the environment at the moment, I'm sure other visitors to DadTalk maybe looking for similar advice themselves.

Cheers
Gooner

The CSA should give you a definitive answer, but to the best of my recollection, CSA payments are based on salary only, so if you have no income, or are on benefits only, then the minimum payment applies of £5 per week. Your ex can apply for a variation if you have assets (excluding house) of more than £60,000, or possibly lifestyle inconsistent with income (unlikely to succeed in my opinion on this one). Best bet is to confirm with CSA what their opinion is and then negotiate with your ex for the payments you think are reasonable.
