I had written a request to my son's doctor to have my contact details added to his records and have asked to see his medical notes. I have received a letter back saying that because I am not the primary carer of my son, I have to get written consent from my ex partner before I can have my details added to my son's record or indeed see his medical notes. My ex partner refuses to tell me anything when I ask about my one year old son's health and what he is currently eating and will not write the required letter. The only info I get told by her is that "he has allergies" I find this hard to believe anyway but obviously I need to know because I don't want him going hungry when he is with me because I'm too scared to give him foods that he otherwise would be having if he was with his mother. It's a crazy situation.

I have PR, have a got a legal right to see his notes and have my details added to his record? Or is being a Dad just not enough!

Any advice appreciated

Hi this is a very difficult area of law
Data Protection Act 1988 'Subject Access'
I would do some research and then write to the surgery again and send copys of your PR or prove you are the childs parent

I have just received a printed copy of my 12 month old sons records and had a good long chat with his GP also. I did produce his birth certificate and ID to the doctor.I also have a 90 page health visitors records.
I initially wrote a few months ago when I had a copy back then. I downloaded a template letter from a site i cannot remember which quoted certain family laws. The site have been, the custody minefield, families need fathers. If i remember rightly they have to provide you them if you request them in writing.

On a separate note I also had his name changed back to his birth name due to the mother dropping my name (double barrel surname)from the records in the doctors.I'd love to dee her face next time she takes him in.

note''''

Just found it
