[Solved] Legal aid/social services

I've received news that my sons nursery has reported the mother to social services, this is of no surprise to me, and the mother doesn't know yet.

I've looked up whether I'm entitled to legal aid because of social services involvement and it's all very confusing. It says if there's been a multi-agency meeting in the last 24 months then I can get legal aid. I know at the start of last year there was a meeting involving the social worker, police, health visitor, etc but I've never received any reports or anything in writing. Can I get legal aid if they are looking into new reports? This'll be the 3rd or 4th time they'll be involved with her, all I know about the previous times is that two of them went as far as a core assessment over a month or two, then no further involvement - until the next time!

I need to get him away from her. I haven't heard from social services yet. I've decided that I can't go into this without a solicitor unless I absolutely have to.

The criteria for Legal Aid funding is to do with DV so I don't think that you would be eligible for help. Here's a link to the justice.gov website about it -

I think you should contact the SS ASAP...they may not contact you but will involve you if you push yourself forward. This has been my sons experience anyway.

Have a look at this link, I only looked at it briefly but I seem to remember there is information about getting free legal help.

Best of luck 🙂

That's even more confusing then! It says on several websites that you can get legal aid still for cases that involve child protection, terms of such being if there's been certain types of involvement in the last 24 months, etc.

I really need to speak to a solicitor before I open the barrel of worms that is contacting social services. We've been through [censored] and back through all the times they've been involved and it's gone nowhere - they get the report, see the mother, believe her, exclude me (despite being the "innocent" party!) and drop it. Then she makes my son too scared to say anything to anyone so no one has a clue what's going on. I know that someone has reported her but as far as I know, social services haven't done anything with this information yet. If I report her to contact social services to find out what's going on, they'll tell her and all [censored] will break loose. Again.
