[Solved] Stress

I am having health problems with stress and the anxiety to with it.

I need some help in finding a non medicated to cope with it all. The stress and anxiety show themselves in blinding headaches and stomach problems, either before or after certain events relating to my current situation, for example like when I found out she done a runner taking my daughter away, then on her return and yesterday when I got home from work and having the court appearance on the Wednesday it just came flooding out of me, waking up early hours with a headache and I still have it now.

So any techniques, hints and tips on dealing with this as it is affecting my work, which is stressing me out too, would be great thanks

Hi Pete,

Have you tried mindfulness? Its an easy meditation method and does work quite well. Look at youtube and you will get an idea of what is involved.

There are also some stress relief applications on ITunes which I have on my phone and listen to those as I go to sleep.

You may also wish to try hypnosis. I found a chap on Gumtree who was looking for people to put under to gain hours towards a hypnosis qualification. No thinking I was a chicken involved he used it to relax me and that to worked quite well.

Alternatively you could try a port or a Crabbies which I have also tried on the odd occasion. 🙂

Thanks Dave,

I will look into those suggestions, going out on a Thursday to play darts with 'the lads' is a must but I was on and off the loo last Thursday so couldn't do it.

Rice tea is supposed to help with upset tummies and the symptoms...Boil half a cup of rice in 6 cups of water for about 15 mins. Strain out the rice and flavour with honey , a little sugar or a dash of cinnamon and drink warm. Eating overlooked rice can also help.

Ginger ale or chewing a piece of ginger root.

Probiotics

Chamomile tea x3 daily

Eating blueberries. Blueberry root or extract that you would probably get from a health food store.

Orange peel tea... Add chopped orange peel into a pan of boiling water, cover and remove from the heat. Sweeten with honey or sugar, leave to cool and drink.

These are natural remedies but as a quick fix I have found Imodium instants to be effective.

The headaches are a different kettle of fish and apart from painkillers there isn't a great deal you can do apart from dealing with the stress and as Dave has recommended, meditation and relaxation techniques might help.

Id also recommend ginger.....ginger tea, biscuits or I convince myself Crabbies ginger beer is helpful. 🙂

I know only too well about stress as I worry about lots of things and my life is awfully hectic.

I haven't had your physical complaints but some of the ways I try to destress involve meeting a friend from time to time, who shares similar interests. In my case, we listen to vinyl or try and play guitar (badly) and chat about family life and I always feel a lot better for a while, afterwards.

I also try and exercise regularly. I go to a gym 2-3 times a week and that helps. They also have a full size body bag and I had a try at that recently. I was very conscious about people that could see me punching it but it did help 8)

Another way I try is my interest in video games. Sometimes, shooting a load of bad guys in Call Of Duty is a great help 8)

Hi there,

Although I have not been in your situation myself I think I can understand a bit about the feeling of stress. I am trying to juggle lots of things at the moment - PhD research, work, family life, social life and hobbies (music, football) - and things do mount up sometimes. Add to that unexpected illness - I've got an infection in my tooth at the moment so have been in bed ill for the last 2 days on antibiotics - feeling guilty about the work i should be doing but not able to. But there is nothing i can do about it. I try to bear in mind some advice i received last year from a supervisor - things do get done as long as you deal with one thing at a time. It sounds so simple but it has really helped me gain more perspective.

I would also recommend trying to do some mindfulness exercises. I have tried it and found it helpful at times of stress.

Make sure you view all situations through multiple lenses. What I mean is if a situation seems stressful, try looking at it from the perspective of someone else. What would they do?

Then break it down into chunks. Deal with one thing. Then deal with the next. Dont look too far ahead and just chip away at each problem. Before you know it things will be improving.

Aside from that make SURE you get enough:

Sleep
Water
excercise
social time with mates who are positive
healthy food.

Finally, listen to music a lot and always talk about your problems. I guess you're already doing that given that I'm writing this at all.
