Hi, have the date for first court hearing regarding my application for a contact order. Do I need to prepare a written statement? What info / paperwork will I need to take? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tel.

Hi there tel 🙂

If you go to the top of the Legal Eagle section you will find two stickys, about representing yourself in court, you might find them helpful.

You won't need to prepare a written statement at this stage, but it might be a good idea to write a list of the issues you want to address in bullet point form....just to keep yourself on track. The whole experience in court can take its toll on your emotions so a list for self reference is a good way to keep focused. Take the copies of the forms you submitted and any other documents pertaining to the case, and a pen and paper to make notes. Oh and plenty of change for the coffee machine!

NJ is right, take your application, and plenty of change! 😆

This will be a Directions hearing when the Judge will direct what he wants to see by way of reports and/or statements.

Keeping a bullet point list is a good reminder to yourself to get across what you need to say.

ensure you write down the directions the Judge give which will include dates by when he wants to see things filed with the Court. You may not always get the Order from the Court for a couple of weeks...or more!
