[Solved] How do you help build a child's self esteem?

We all lead busy lives, often both parents work and quality time with our children and grandchildren has to be planned ahead for!

I think encouraging self esteem/confidence is an important area of a child's development, thinking went a bit too far left in the last decade and competitiveness was discouraged...I'm glad to see that it isn't the dirty word that it was!

What do you do to promote your child's well being and help them to feel good about themselves?

I like to reward our children for good behaviour and good ideas, sometimes they have better ideas than me...I know hard to believe. :). Usually with lots of praise and stickers but also the odd comic.

I also admit it when I get it wrong and involve them in decision making where possible.

In terms of competitiveness, I tell them they have to work hard at things if they want to succeed and if they fail I tell them to think about what they could have done better.

Regards,

Dave

Getting residence was definitely the best thing I ever did for my kids (and for me too) - the change in their confidence over the years has been phenomenal. 🙂
